Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my personal background important?
Dr. Lacy will discuss your current vision concerns, overall health, and lifestyle. By understanding your hobbies, work environment, and daily routines, she can better customize the exam to suit your specific needs.
What happens during the eye exam?
Your exam goes beyond checking your prescription. Dr. Lacy will assess your eye health, including color vision, depth perception, and early signs of eye conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal issues. The exact details of your exam will be based on your unique needs and concerns.
Why does Dr. Lacy ask, “which is better, one or two?”
This is a key part of your vision prescription. Dr. Lacy will present you with lens options to compare clarity. If it’s tough to choose between the options, that’s actually a great sign—it means she’s narrowing in on the perfect prescription for you!
Why is my blood pressure important?
Your blood pressure is directly related to your eye health. High blood pressure can affect the blood vessels in your eyes and lead to potential vision problems, which is why it’s an essential part of the exam.
Why am I asked to follow a light?
This test helps Dr. Lacy assess how your pupils and eye muscles respond to stimuli, which is important for checking neurological function and overall eye health.
Will my pupils be dilated?
Nearly all patients will have their pupils dilated during their exam. This allows Dr. Lacy to fully examine your retina and detect potential issues like retinal tears, macular degeneration, and signs of systemic conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure. Dilation is a painless, temporary process, and if there’s any reason not to dilate, Dr. Lacy will discuss this with you.
